“LOGAN ROARING TO A COURTHOUSE NEAR YOU"

by Bill Cotterell

Independent U.S. Senate candidate Willie Logan's campaign will come roaring into Tallahassee this week.

Logan, a state representative from Opa-locka, is roughly retracing the route taken by the late Gov. Lawton Chiles, who walked from Century to the Florida Keys in his successful race for the Senate.

Only Logan is using a motorcycle in what he calls his "Independence Tour."

After filing his qualifying papers last week, Logan went out to Century (a little town on the Alabama border) to begin his trek, stopping to talk to voters in little towns along the way -- much like "Walkin' Lawton" did 30 years ago.

Logan is scheduled to hit the Gadsden County Courthouse at 4 p.m. on Monday, then will spend the night in the Tallahassee area and take off from the Florida A&M Student Union at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

Logan's motorcycle tour has stops scheduled at the Jefferson County Courthouse at 11 a.m. Tuesday, followed by campaigning in courthouse squares in Madison at 1:30 p.m., Live Oak at 3 p.m. and Lake City at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

The tour is scheduled to end in Key West on, appropriately, the Fourth of July.
