"WILLIE LOGAN QUALIFIES FOR SENATE RACE, BEGINS STATEWIDE
TOUR ON MOTORCYCLE"

May 2000

by Sean Pittman

TALLAHASSEE -State Representative Willie Logan is continuing his challenge of the two-party system by officially qualifying on May 8, 2000, to run for the open U.S. Senate seat, independent of the two major political parties. Logan also officially kicked off his campaign by beginning a motorcycle "Independence Tour" across the State of Florida.

Kicking off in Century, Florida, and culminating in Key West on Independence Day (July 4), he'll be escorted by supporters and political independents in every city and county. The prominent organization of motorcyclists and bikers known as A.B.A.T.E. (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) will play an active part in the Tour, riding throughout the Tour as a symbol of solidarity with his independent crusade to return government to ordinary citizens.

Logan will call for American politics "to be freed from the shackles of big, corporate money and dominance by special interests."  "I am running because I am tired of our political worth being determined by our net worth," Logan proclaimed. "Both major parties continue to sell off our government, piece by piece, to the highest bidder. If we don't put a stop to it by electing people who aren't beholden to the two parties and their big corporate special interest friends, we will lose our government altogether. Now is the time to come together and reclaim the power of our individual voices," Logan said.

Logan noted that his campaign for U.S. Senator is gathering momentum precisely because the
two major parties have disconnected themselves from the real concerns of average citizens. "In
the next five years, more than a quarter of all registered voters will be independents. This is a growing legion of people who have learned the hard way that the Democratic and Republican
parties are in it only for themselves and for their large corporate contributors. Big Money has
poisoned the well of American democracy, and it's our job to clean the well, " Logan said.

Logan will kick off his Motorcycle Tour in Century, the same town that the late Governor Lawton Chiles, later known as "Walkin' Lawton," began his memorable "Walk across Florida" during his first U.S. Senate race in 1970. Logan will be joined on the first leg of his ride by Century City Councilwoman Marie McMurray, who walked the first mile with Chiles in his 1970 walk. She'll ride the first mile with Logan on his motorcycle.

The Logan 2000 Independence Tour will visit more than 50 counties in Florida.  To find out when Logan will be near you, log on to www.logan2000.org. or call (305) 681-5042 for information.

Logan said, "Our motorcycle tour is a symbol of everything that's missing in American politics today. Freedom to be your own person and not have your vision clouded by others. Freedom
from being chained to a political party that represents the rich by exploiting those less fortunate.
Freedom to say what's right and to do something different for a change --to represent the real interests of the American people and not just cater to the corpoIrate elite because they've paid
you off. "

"I encourage everyone who feels his or her voice isn't heard in Washington to get involved in my campaign for U.S. Senate and to join me on my motorcycle tour. You don't have to ride or own a motorcycle to be a part. Just come out and show your support. Because the time has come
to take our government back for the people and pull it away from this hostile corporate takeover,"
Logan concluded.
