LOGAN JUMPS 8 POINTS IN RECENT POLLS:
WINS INVITATION TO FINAL DEBATE

MIAMI  -- After earning rave reviews in the October 15, 2000, U.S. Senate candidate debate on PBS, State Representative Willie Logan has risen substantially in polls of likely voters around the State. In the last six independent statewide polls conducted by Survey USA since the October 15, 2000, debate, Logan, who is running as an independent, received 12%, 11%, 11%, 9%, 9% and 11% of the vote in a three-way race involving Republican Bill McCollum and Democrat Bill Nelson. Logan’s major support comes from young and independent voters.

Due to Representative Logan’s rise in the polls, he has met the threshold for participation in the final televised debate on October 27, sponsored by the Florida News Network (FNN). Logan received his invitation to participate in that debate today. The debate will air at 8:00p.m. on FNN stations:

WINK, CBS 4, Fort Myers
WCJB, ABC 20, Gainesville
WJXT, CBS 4, Jacksonville

WPLG, ABC 10, Miami

WFTV, ABC 9, Orlando
WMBB, ABC 13, Panama City
WEAR, ABC 3, Pensacola
WWSB, ABC 40, Sarasota
WCTV, CBS 6, Tallahassee
WTSP, CBS 10, Tampa
WPBF, ABC 25, West Palm Beach

"We're very encouraged by the invitation," said Representative Logan. "Obviously we do not have the financial resources of the Democrats and the Republicans, but this opportunity helps level the playing field, provides voters with information from which to make an informed decision, and allows us to share our message with Floridians and make clear that they have a choice in this election other than politics as usual."

Willie Logan is running independent of the two major parties and will be on the general election ballot going head on against McCollum and Nelson. Logan, 42, who has served in the Florida House of Representatives since 1982 and represents the city of Opa-locka and Northwest Miami-Dade County, announced at the end of September 1999 that he would run as an independent for Florida's open U.S. Senate seat.

Prior to his election to the Florida House, Willie Logan was elected Mayor of Opa-locka at age 23, at the time the youngest mayor in the United States. In the Florida Legislature, he consistently ranked as one of the Florida House's most effective members and has been commended on his ability to work on a bipartisan basis to secure support for his constituents and issues affecting the entire state.
