August 17, 2004. A Miami Herald
article, entitled "Candidate catches ballot mix-up," describes
Logan's experience at the polls the first day of Early Voting:
"County Commission candidate Willie Logan noticed an alarming
omission Monday when he took advantage of the first day of early
voting: He wasn't on the ballot, and neither were his six
opponents...After Logan's complaint, county staffers were sent out
to all the early voting sites to speak with poll workers."
August 10, 2004. Noting
that Logan stands out as a "high octane choice" in the
race for District One, The Miami Herald Endorsement
Editorial goes on to say, "Mr. Logan is a political
pro who started his career as mayor of Opa-locka (1980-82)
and went on to serve 18 years in the Legislature...Mr. Logan offers
proven political acumen and intimate knowledge of this
district that he gained as a state representative from 1982
to 2000. He is a long-time executive of the nonprofit Opa-locka
Community Development Corp. with an extensive understanding of
urban-development issues."

26, 2004.
Logan attends a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of
Jackson Memorial Hospital, where the Committee discussed the
Hospital's financial problems with union leaders. Logan's
remarks spark resounding applause as he speaks on behalf of workers and
provides examples of alternatives to
the layoffs many workers fear will occur.
July 25, 2004. A Miami Herald "Neighbors" article, entitled "Apartments due for
big changes," discusses the Opa-locka CDC's purchase of
Westview Terrace Apartments, which
the CDC plans to renovate. The article quotes Logan,
Opa-locka CDC's president, who says
"One of the goals of the Opa-locka CDC is to
provide quality and affordable housing for the
residents of the North Dade Community. As owners of Westview, we are able to provide that and more."

A front page Fort Lauderdale Sun
Sentinel article, "Former
Miami-Dade legislator seeks comeback...," reported on Logan's
filing official papers qualifying for office on June 29, the first
day of qualifying. "...supporters wearing campaign
T-shirts clapped and hugged Logan, who became the first to qualify
for the race for the District 1 seat. 'Well, it's
official now,' he [Logan] said shortly after noon. 'The
people in this district have hopes and dreams that need to be
fulfilled. All right, now it's time to get to work!'
June 13, 2004. A Miami
Herald "Neighbors" article, entitled "Loan Generates
Overhaul, New Homes," reports on the Opa-locka CDC's $1.8
million County grant to redevelop the Vista Verde townhouses in District 1.
The article quotes Logan, Opa-locka CDC's president, who says the
purpose of the redevelopment is to enable homeowners to avoid
predatory lenders and also to increase the value of property in the
neighborhood.

calls for a study to determine whether sanitation workers, who are
three times as likely to die on the job as police officers and
firefighters, should receive the same hazardous duty benefits police

April 28- May 4, 2004. A front page
Business section Miami Times article,
entitled "Home Rehab Loans for Opa-locka, Miami Gardens,"
announces the Opa-locka CDC's receipt of over $300,000 for its new
Home rehab loan program. The CDC, which Logan, president and
CEO, founded in 1980, initiated the program to provide residents of
North Miami-Dade with an affordable financial alternative for making
repairs to their homes. For more information on CDC home rehab

April 4, 2004. A Miami
Herald "Neighbors" article, entitled "Housing
Project Takes Shape" reports on the construction progress of a
new single family town home project in District 1. The article
quotes Logan as noting the importance of homeownership to improving
communities. As founder and president of the Opa-locka CDC
since 1980, Logan has worked his entire adult life to provide
affordable homeownership opportunities for the residents of North
Miami-Dade.
March
24-30, 2004. A front page Miami Times article,
entitled "Logan to Run for Ferguson's Seat," heralds
Logan's return to public service: "The contest...got an
experienced contender this week when former state representative
Willie Logan [announced his candidacy]."
March
22, 2004. A "Political Beat" Miami Herald article
announces Logan's candidacy for the soon to be vacated Miami-Dade
County Commission seat for District 1.
March
21, 2004. A Miami Herald "Neighbors" article,
entitled "FIU, Private College Team Up on Building,"
reports on a 35,000 square foot building that
private Florida Memorial College (FMC) will share with FIU.
The article paraphrases FMC Provost Karl Wright:
"The genesis -- and 'genius' -- of the project...came from
then-state Rep. Willie Logan's vision of creating an educational
institution that combined the benefits of a public and private
partnership."

August 31! Logan made the runoff!! Thanks to all our loyal
supporters, Willie Logan is one step closer to serving us all as the next
Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 1!!
On
August 19, Logan joined other leaders at a press conference to protest the
recent decision by the Miami-Dade Elections Department to discontinue the use
of the most well known landmark in the North Central area, the Caleb Center, as
a voting precinct. The precinct was discontinued by the present Elections
Supervisor without input from those who are most affected by that decision.
On
August 16, Logan spoke out about his ballot error, leading
to further training of poll workers around the County. After voting, Logan joined other voters in casting their ballots on this first day
of Early Voting.
On
August 15, Logan shared his vision for the District at a luncheon for Northeast
Dade residents.
On
August 12, supporter Fitzgerald Palmer hosted a reception for Logan in the
District.
On
August 4, at 4:00 a.m., Logan, armed with goodie bags, bade
farewell to Opa-locka Optimist Club campers on their way to Tampa for the
end-of-summer trip.
On
August 3, Logan participated in two National Crime Watch Night Out events in
the District.
On
July 31, Logan attended the 20th Annual Jamaican independence Ball and joined
others in celebrating Jamaica's 42nd year of Independence.
On
July 29 and 30, Logan paid his respects to the late former Opa-locka Mayor
Albert Tresvant, speaking at the candlelight ceremony and both speaking and
serving as pall bearer at the funeral.

July 17, Logan joined other leaders at an OLCDC community celebration in the District.

July 15, Logan discussed his plans for District One at the Northwest Dade
Candidate Forum held at New Way Fellowship Baptist Church.
On June
26, Logan toiled with other volunteers at the LeJeune Gardens Community
Cleanup.
On June
25, Logan joined community leaders at the installation meeting of the North
Dade Chamber of Commerce.
On June
17, Logan celebrated with supporters at a Campaign fundraiser on the Beach.
On June
12, Logan attended the opening of a new day care center in the District.

10, Logan joined supporters at a Campaign fundraiser hosted by the accounting
firm of Harvey, Branker & Associates.
On June
4, Logan partied with supporters at a Campaign event hosted by Opa-locka community
leader Virginia Tresvant.

27, the District One Community came out in full force to help Logan Kick-off
his Campaign at Ruby & Jean's!
On May 24, Logan participated in the ribbon
cutting ceremony at a joint project between the Opa-locka CDC (which Logan leads)
and the Universal Truth Center CDC. Through the project, very low to low-income
residents will purchase homes rehabilitated by the Opa-locka CDC.
On May 18, Logan toured a North Dade Water
Treatment facility to learn about hazards workers face.
Logan joined other concerned
leaders at the Voter Education & Empowerment Rally in
Opa-locka, May 15.
Logan helped approximately 150 other concerned
Miami Gardens citizens clean up the City streets on
Saturday, May 8.
Logan read to pre-schoolers
at a North Miami-Dade child care center on April 14.
Logan joined other County
leaders in Tallahassee for Miami-Dade Day on April 1.
Marsha Williams and Stephanie Williams-Baldwin hosted the
very first Campaign fundraiser on Tuesday, March 30, 2004,
at Marsha's home in the District. The enthusiastic
crowd gave Logan his first push towards victory in August
2004!
