To
the Finish Line...The last few days of the campaign, Willie was busy as ever on
the Campaign Trail! Running
'til the end!!
Friday, Willie and Lyra campaigned in South Bay, Belle Meade,
Pahokee, and Okeechobee, posting campaign signs and talking with
local voters. On Saturday, they visited churches and
communities in Orange Park and Green Cove Springs before passing
out literature at the Jacksonville Air Show and at the St.
Augustine Lincolnville Festival. Sunday,
Sean and Willie attended services at four South Florida churches
and greeted voters at a Broward Sunday Jazz festival.

Monday, Willie greeted voters in Little Havana during lunch and
talked with workers during a shift change at Jackson Memorial
Hospital in Miami. He
then campaigned at a busy downtown Miami intersection during the afternoon drive
and finished the night at a church revival meeting
in Richmond Heights. Election Day morning, he and Lyra went to
vote at around 8:00 am and then greeted the morning traffic at
an intersection in Northwest Miami Dade. Later on Election Day, Willie
visited a number of Miami-Dade precincts before joining staff at
the campaign office to await election results. RUN, WILLIE, RUN!!

On September 1, Willie filed a Writ in the Supreme
Court of Florida to force the Division of Elections to list all
candidate names fairly on the upcoming November 7, 2000, general
election ballot. Current law would allow the State to list
major party candidates first, giving them an unfair advantage over
non-party candidates, since it has been shown that some voters simply
vote for the first person listed in some races. This practice
of listing major party candidates before any others contradicts the
Florida Constitution which Florida voters recently amended to provide
for equal ballot access for all candidates.
The practice also violates federal constitutional rights. So,
on September 8, Willie filed a similar complaint in the United States
District Court in Miami. Click

Did you catch the first televised U.S. Senate
candidate debate? Well, fret not, because it is still running
statewide at various times on the Sunshine Network. The debate,
sponsored by the Florida Chamber of Commerce, focused primarily on
business issues, ranging from employer health insurance, taxes,
trade, and spending the budget surplus. The post-debate buzz around the room was that Willie
"won" this head to head match up against his
opponents. Here's what one viewer had to say:
August 31, 2000
Dear Willie,
I watched the debate today and
was very pleased to hear your honesty and "no fear"
attitude to tell the truth. You still have my vote.
A certain kind of ego seems to
go with some public officials, and the idea that the voters
are stupid is a sad mistake for them to make. We may
feel powerless but not stupid. Thank you for not being that
kind of politician.
We are fighting for survival in
this country and I, for one, want my leaders to be truthful.
You give me hope that the government could eventually be
returned to the people of this country.
Sincerely,
Alesa Glazier

Maybe you heard that a July 6 U.S. Senate debate/forum
sponsor tried to exclude Willie from the discussion. Even in the
face of letters from our opponents in favor of Willie's participation,
the fellow, a long time Democrat, said Willie could not speak.
But guess who went and joined the discussion anyway? You guessed
it: Willie, who did a fine job showing himself to be the only
candidate who understands and represents average citizens and isn't
beholden to special interests or to parties.
Here's what a Miami Herald reader had to say on the subject in
a July 13 Letter to the Editor, entitled "Logan
courageous":
Good for Willie
Logan. How could there be a real debate of the issues
when some candidates are excluded? It took courage for
Mr. Logan, uninvited, to appear at the...forum for Senate
candidates in Tampa recently and quietly insist that he be
allowed to participate.

- At a news conference held Friday, March

denounced the current political system as "corrupt" and
launched the ad in conjunction with filing a bill banning soft money
in political campaigns. He also challenged other candidates to
reject soft money in the current U.S. Senate race.
